Time for more short vowel word family houses! So far I’ve shared short a, short i, and short o. We’re on the home stretch! Today you’ll find downloads for seven free word family houses for short e.
We love finding fun ways to practice word families. Here are some of the things we’ve done:
We’ve spelled with milk cap letters.
And of course we’ve used our Word Family Houses. What I love about all these activities is that not a single one requires a worksheet. My Five enjoys doing them and is starting to read more quickly. I love it when he sounds out a word on a sign or on a package in the grocery store without my prompting. We’re on our way!
To assemble the word family houses, follow these steps:
1) Print the document on brightly colored cardstock. Here’s what a sample download will look like:
2. Cut out the house and wheel. Make sure to cut into the house and snip out the window, too.
3. Laminate both pieces. I love this affordable home laminator. If you’ve cut out the window before laminating, you will have a nice clear window. This is what you will have:
4. Attach the pieces together with a brass fastener. Here are our finished houses:
