Have you seen my free spelling games? I’m adding another one!
I’m on a mission to create spelling games for words with long vowels.
Today: short and long e dominoes!
The game is very simple. Just cut out the dominoes and divide them up evenly. Then take turns choosing from your pile to set down a domino. It has to connect to another one with the same spelling pattern.
You’ll find three spelling patterns in the game:
short e (vest, mend, etc.)
long e spelled -e (he, she, be, etc.)
long e spelled ee (speed, peek, etc.)
Are you thinking that this sounds more like a reading game than a spelling game? It’s both. What makes it a spelling game is that your child really needs to notice and think about those spelling patterns before placing a domino.
P.S. Did you know?

Anna Geiger
I’m sorry, Nida – I get asked this a lot, but I really don’t have experience in that area!

Katie @ Gift of Curiosity
Printing these now! This is a skill my kids are still working on and I think we will all have playing this game together. Thank you for your amazing resources!
Anna Geiger
You’re welcome, Katie – so glad you can use it!
Alice @ Mums Make Lists
Love this – my 5 year old at the stage of just being awed by all the different ways you can make a long e and randomly splattering all the different ones she knows everywhere 🙂 This could really help!
Anna Geiger
It does help draw attention to the different patterns. Stay tuned for more long e games! 🙂
