My three-year-old is moving right along with his beginning sounds – and this learning center has really helped him along! These picture mats and letter cards have been just the thing to help him master those tricky sounds.

This is Set Three in my series of Beginning Sound Match Mats.
If your child already knows a lot of his letter sounds, use the sets in whatever order you want. However, if you want to start simple and build on what your child learns, start with my first set and move on from there.
Each set includes five numbered mats. Each mat adds a new letter and reviews some that we’ve practiced previously. Mats 11-15 add the letters i, h, k, n, and z.
How to assemble the learning center:
1) Print each picture mat and set of letter cards on cardstock (don’t print page 1 – that’s my Terms of Use).
2) Cut apart the letter cards.
3) Want to keep it cheap and simple? Just have your child set the letter card on the corresponding picture.
4) Want to make it lasting? Laminate the board and cards (laminate the cards before cutting them apart to save yourself some time!). I’m a huge fan of our affordable home laminator – it makes our learning centers last!
5) Want to make it more fun? Attach clear Velcro dots to the pictures and the fuzzy connecting dots to the backs of the letter cards. Kids love that ripping sound when they pull off the cards – and it’s so satisfying to attach the cards to the pictures.
6) To keep the mats in one place, punch holes in them and store them in a 3-ring binder. If you go the extra step to laminate and attach with Velcro dots, everything will stay together! If not, you’ll want to put the cards in an envelope and attach with a paper clip to the corresponding mat.
Great news! All 25 mats are now complete AND available in one easy download!

Hi Anna
This is Janelle again from Trinidad. i recommend your website to all my teacher friends and use your printables.
what would you recommend for children who are 7 and older who struggle with letter sounds.
Anna Geiger
I would recommend a lot of letter sound sorts using pictures, first. Have you tried something like this?

Hi Anna,
I wanted to thank you so much for being so generous and sharing all your hard work. It truly is a blessing! When I first started homeschooling (10 years ago), very little was available online. Now that I have 8 kids and 5 aged 5 and under, I feel like I’ve entered a whole new world of resources! I think I’m pretty much downloaded all that you have. 🙂 Thanks so much again!

Anna, where do you get your clear Velcro? I’ve only been able to find black or white, not clear.

Congrats on your baby, wish you well and that is healthy and strong. I’m new at homeschooling my little one and I’m so excited because he is 4yr and now his sounds. slowly I’m introducing small words so he can get the sound out of each on without pushing to read. Could you help me to know when I’m need to teach the him the consonants or the shorts vowels? Or even a book title that i can read that will guide on that path.
I know you must be getting ready for that blessing that God has send you and your family, I truly don’t want to cause more stress with questions.
Thank you for the printable, my son loves them and repeats them over and over again.
Thank you again, has help us a lot.
God Bless you and your, Congratulations again!!

Hello! I’d love to help you more, but I’m not quite sure I understand your question. Would you email me at themeasuredmom@gmail.com? We can correspond more about exactly what your son is doing and where to move next. Be sure to watch your spam folder for my reply, because it will come from a different address. Hope to hear from you soon!
